Our gite is situated in a small hamlet called Marcillac, 4 kilometres from the medieval town of Mur de Barrez in the Aveyron department of southern France. We are now part of the newly named region of Occitanie, which was previously known as the Midi Pyrenées. Nestled on the border of the Cantal, it's northern neighbour,  which is part of the volcanic region of the Auvergne, we make an ideal base to discover this wonderful part of France.

Mur de Barrez is the capital of the Carladez, and ancient fiefdom of the principality of Monaco. The Monaco tower in the centre of the village used to be the main gate of the fortified wall that enclosed the old centre. It's distinctive slate roofs and narrow alley ways plays host to the artisanal shops, bars and restaurants with a warm welcome guaranteed.
